The African Choir of Norfolk
Performance SATURDAY - Anna Mudeka & The African Choir of Norfolk
The African Choir of Norfolk launched to a sold out gig on the 22nd of October 2021 and since then they have been in demand to appear at events throughout 2022. This newly launched choir is led by musician and singer Anna Mudeka from Zimbabwe who credits her grandmother for encouraging her to sing and dance from an early age. Mudeka’s career spans thirty years in the music business and this latest project shows maturity and wisdom with a rich collection of songs from 16 different nations of Africa.
Anna has run many music projects over the years and says The African Choir of Norfolk has to be one of her proudest projects. The choir is made up of a vibrant group of women sharing their love and heritage of Africa from different parts of Africa including Ivory Coast, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Eritrea, Ghana, Tanzania, Caribbean and Black British descendants.
The choir which has been commissioned by the Hostry Festival is part of a five year program which will see the choir accomplish songs from all 54 nations of Africa by 2025.
This is no ordinary choir, they are unashamedly vibrant, lively and colourful with dance, drumming, ululation, guitar, percussion and mbira. Audiences are transported to the beautiful Savannah of the African plains through a repertoire of songs which reflect everyday life in Africa from joy to sorrow and everything in between.
To see The African Choir of Norfolk is a memorable experience which is uplifting, healing and joyous.
