Workshops – West African Djembe & Duns

Solo Soro, of Inglewood in Los Angeles County, is a master percussionist in West African drumming. Born in Cote d’ Ivoire (Ivory Coast).

Solo first learned to play the balafon, a gourd-resonated xylophone, in the Senufo tradition, from his father, Soro Ibrahima, who also learned it from his father. Solo started learning the Balafon at the age of three, followed by the djembe drum at six.

By the age of twelve he was asked to join Ballet Djolem, the national dance company of the Ivory Coast. Today, Solo teaches balafon, djembe and dunun percussion in Mali, Ivory Coast and Burkina rhythms.

He regularly teaches and drums for West African dance classes in and around Southern California. Solo recently performed live at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Philharmonic. They played all the tracks from the Black Panther movie soundtrack which Solo featured on alongside 3 time grammy award winner Magatte Fall.
