Workshop - Abass Dodoo Boomwacker

Abass will run a workshop using Boomwackers. These are cut lengths of plastic tubing creating a range of different notes. You will have the opportunity to make one yourself with Abass from the materials provided, then learn to play them with this master percussionist.

The London based Ghanaian musician and master drummer, Abass Dodoo has made a name for himself on the international Jazz scene, having played alongside the legendary Ginger Baker as part of the ‘Ginger Baker Jazz Confusion’.

During this 12-year collaboration they toured many of the world’s most famous Jazz venues and festivals. Abass was born in Nsawam (southern Ghana) into a legendary, internationally acclaimed family of drummers, dancers and healers. He was mentored by his maternal uncle, Mustapha Tettey Addy; Master drummer, anthropologist and researcher in the field of traditional music and dance in Ghana.

Leading workshops throughout Europe (including WOMAD), in true Ghanian style, Abass magically turns the audience into performers, and entertainment into a fully engaging, interactive, creative lived experience. Know for sure you will experience rhythm, energy and joy. I love playing drums, says Abass, as it makes me feel like am walking on the moon.
